Ah, Sport Fishing!
Perhaps the single most well-known and important
activity that exists on the Big Island is Sport Fishing. The quality of
the "big game" here is unparalleled anywhere in the world.
The Kona Coast lies immediately next to a huge
ocean drop-off which descends thousands of feet to the ocean bottom. This
provides easy access to some of the world's largest game fish, many of
which can be found mounted throughout the stores and restaurants of the
small town of Kailua-Kona. Anglers from all over the world have found
their way here to participate in one of the most exciting of all forms of
fishing. The thrill of hooking into one of these large ocean creatures and
attempting to bring it on board is something you will never forget. Once
it's happened for the first time you're hooked! You'll be back time and
time again for the thrill of the pursuit and the excitement of the catch.
There is a huge fleet of fishing boats available
for charter and many are among the most beautiful I have ever come across.
One additional factor you will find very attractive is the fact that the
pricing on these charters is very, very reasonable compared to other
islands in the state. I've always found it ironic that some of the best
fishing in the world, on some of the most beautiful boats in the world,
could be found in Kona at the very lowest prices.
If you have the slightest interest in fishing,
this is the place to do it.
