Submarines
& Glass Bottom Boats
The Big Island is famous for it's fish
and reef life.
The reef off Kona is teaming with a wide assortment of beautifully
colored marine animals. For those who would like to see this
spectacular underwater display without getting wet, there is no
better viewing vehicle than a submarine or a glass bottom boat.
The submarine is certainly the most exciting because it descends
to depths of over 100 ft. below the surface. Every seat has it's
own adjacent window and the viewing is almost surreal. When's the
last time you were in a submarine anyway? Now they are very
comfortable and roomy with plenty of rushing fresh air. You'll
appreciate the change in colors as you descend deeper and deeper
to the ocean floor. Each dive is different and quite often you'll
see large fish cruising in from the ocean depths way off the
coast.
Another fantastic way to view the beautiful reef life is on a
glass bottom boat. I vividly remember the very first time I
boarded my first glass bottom off Kona many years ago. I just
couldn't believe the quantity of fish I saw and the beautiful reef
colors were almost neon or florescent.
Both types of boats have many daily departures and unlike many
other parts of the state these trips have excellent viewing in
both the morning and the afternoon.
